Turkish ultra-nationalist politician Sinan Ogan came third in the first round of the presidential election on May 14, 2023. He is a former member of the MHP (Nationalist Action Party), the main ally of the AKP (Justice and Development Party) in the government coalition.

He therefore has ideological affinities with the supporters of the Alliance united around outgoing President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. In an interview with Reuters news agency, he said that "fighting terrorism and returning refugees" were red lines for his alliance. The return of refugees could be the subject of an agreement with Kemal Kiliçdaroglu.
