Portuguese Parliament adopts final version of law decriminalizing euthanasia. 129 MPs voted in favour and 81 against, out of the 230 members of the Assembly.

The law could enter into force in the autumn, according to estimates cited by the local press. Euthanasia and assisted suicide are now allowed in a handful of European countries, such as those in the Benelux, the first to have authorized them, and neighboring Spain. The debate over euthanasia is destined to continue.
