Warsaw, then Budapest, ban imports of cereals and other agricultural products from Ukraine, until June 30, to protect their own farmers. The European Commission criticised this double decision, recalling that trade policy in the EU was its exclusive prerogative.

The traditional route of Ukrainian exports by sea, via the Black Sea, is blocked by the Russian invasion. Ukrainian agricultural products, including cereals, are currently transiting en masse through the European Union. But since then, for logistical reasons, cereals have been piled up in a neighbouring transit country: Poland.
