An investigation was opened in December 2022 for misleading commercial practices and planned obsolescence. It follows a complaint filed by the French association Stop Planned Obsolescence (HOP) against the American smartphone giant Apple.

The investigations into this complaint denouncing a defective repairability of apple devices were entrusted to the national investigation service of the Directorate General for Competition, Consumer Affairs and Fraud Prevention. In February 2020, Apple had agreed to pay in France a fine of 25 million euros as part of a criminal settlement to end proceedings for deceptive marketing practices.
