New rules make it easier for shipping companies to get exemptions from having to take pilots on board. Pilots' Association fears that the pilot exemption system is not sufficient to keep track of foreign calls.
Swedish Armed Forces are also concerned and warn of a development where the number of pilotages is decreasing because pilots are a "strength from a national security perspective" The Swedish Transport Agency believes that the new rules may lead to more pilotage at first and also points out that national security has not been taken into account.
