Filipino human rights defender Leila de Lima, imprisoned for six years, was acquitted on Friday 12 May of one of the last two counts of drug trafficking against her. The 63-year-old activist is a staunch opponent of former President Rodrigo Duterte and his deadly war on drugs in the Philippines.

She has been imprisoned since February 2017 on drug trafficking charges, which she and human rights groups have called a travesty of justice and revenge. The former senator has asked to be released on bail and is awaiting the judge's decision.
