A second request for a referendum of shared initiative (RIP) was tabled this Thursday by left-wing deputies and senators. A text almost identical to the first, on which the Constitutional Council must decide Friday, but more "secure" in order to compensate for the "possible weakness" of the first request.

The Constitutional Council will decide Friday whether or not to give the green light to this procedure. The referendum has never been successful since its introduction into the Constitution in 2008, at the initiative of Nicolas Sarkozy.
