"We do not want, obviously, that there is any violent expression or any pressure whatsoever that could weigh on this or that institution," says the head of the Council of Ministers. "We are obviously looking for appeasement," he adds.

The law will then be "promulgated" by the French government, says the Head of State. The French government says it is ready to discuss the law with the unions, but not before it is approved by the national parliament. The decision will be announced at a meeting on Friday night.
