"There is no brutality in applying the law," says the Minister of Labour, Olivier Dussopt. "The contempt returned to the workers will have been constant," he adds.

The CGT has already called for a big day of strikes on May 1, and could join other demonstrations on April 20 and 28. "I sometimes have the feeling that the president of the Republic is paying the bills of the last 30 years and not only his own," says CGT leader, Jean-Claude Junker.
