Bears that lie still in hibernation throughout the winter do not get blood clots. A mechanism in the platelets has been shown to limit the blood's ability to clot and create deadly clots in both bears and humans.

The researchers hope that the discovery will pave the way for new blood clot drugs. The research presents in this week's Science.                 The protein HSP47 disappears in the bears in the winter.                 In the summer, the platelet are like us humans.
