2.240 trillion dollars were spent in the military sector in 2022 worldwide. A record increase of 3.7% compared to last year.

Increase was strongest in Europe: spending jumped by 13%, the highest since the end of the Cold War. Ukraine is the country that has suffered the most dramatic increase in its military spending in 2022. Overall army budgets have increased everywhere except in Africa. The continent spent $39.4 billion, 5.3 percent less than in 2021. It is also the first time that African spending has fallen in four years.
