Not even four years have passed since Mercadona decided to open the doors of its first store outside of Spain. It was in July 2019 and the site chosen to export the successful formula was Canidelo, a hamlet of the Portuguese municipality of Vila Nova de Gaia.
The company chaired by Juan Roig already has 39 stores in the neighboring country, spread over the districts of Porto, Braga, Aveiro, Viana de Castelo, Setúbal, Santarém, Viseu and Leiria.
