A number of French MPs have expressed concern about their inability to criticize Israel. A draft resolution condemning Israel's "institutionalization of the apartheid regime" was rejected by the National Assembly.

A member of the Communist Party said that criticism of the Israeli government is not a form of anti-Semitism, but a matter of freedom of speech. The French government is considering a ban on the sale of Israeli goods to the Palestinian diaspora in the U.S. to stop the spread of the BDS movement.
