A man has been arrested by British police on Tuesday after he approached the gates of Buckingham Palace. He threw items "suspected of being shotgun cartridges" on the palace grounds, London's Metropolitan Police said.

Police detained the man and took him into custody, and security cordons have been put in place. The man was arrested on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon, police said in a statement. The incident is being investigated by the Metropolitan Police's Counter Terrorism Command, which is based in London.
