Linköping wants to become a pilot municipality for extended use of residence bans. The proposal was put forward in a motion from the Sweden Democrats last year.

The idea is that the residence ban can be imposed by the court as punishment and then contribute to breaking up gang crime. The Swedish Prison and Probation Service can today decide on a residence ban for a person who is sentenced to a suspended sentence or is on parole.
