After a sensational start to the season, the two-time Tour winner (2020 and 2021) has made the Grande Boucle the big goal of his season after relinquishing his crown to Denmark's Jonas Vingegaard last year. The long-awaited duel between the two phenomena was brutally aborted when the Slovenian went to the mat at high speed after only 85 kilometers of racing.

"He asked me to relay it, but I told him I couldn't. So he just left. Remco was too strong today," said the Ineos rider.
