There is less and less evidence that the government can achieve the goal of Swedish NATO membership by NATO's summit this summer. As there will now be a second round of elections in Turkey at the end of May, time is running out for ratification of Sweden's application before the summer.

While Finland has been ratified by all NATO countries, neither Turkey nor Hungary has wanted to approve Sweden's NATO application. Turkey has since pointed to Koran burnings, the PKK's activities in Sweden and demanded that a number of alleged terrorists be extradited.
