Cleveland Clinic has successfully performed the world's first implantation of a device that combines two proven treatments for heart failure. The new clinical study, called INTEGRA-D, aimed to assess the safety and effectiveness of the device.

The device improves heart contraction, while an implantable defibrillator treats heart rhythm disturbances, which are life-threatening and cause sudden death. Dr. Bruce Wilcoff, director of pacemakers at Cleveland Clinic and lead investigator of the study, said: "This milestone may mark important advances"
