Latvia sends tons of seized Russian fertilizer to Kenya as part of the UN World Food Programme. First tons of fertilizer have just left the port of Riga.

Several more shipments will follow. It is a question of disposing of 200,000 tonnes of Russian fertiliser seized by Latvia a year ago, after this commodity was subject to European sanctions. The UN estimated in November 2022 that 300,000 tons of Russian fertilizer were blocked in European ports. Donating fertilizer is just another way to mitigate the consequences of the conflict.
