South Korea reached an agreement with the Biden administration last month to provide 50,155 rounds of <>mm shells to the United States on a Lend-Lease basis. The South Korean government believes that if the shells are leased, the ownership of the shells belongs to the South Korea government and must be returned later.

The decision to "lend" rather than sell the munitions was intended to minimize the possibility that South Korean shells could be used in the Russian-Ukrainian conflict.
