Former US Secretary of State Henry Kissinger suggested that negotiations on a Ukrainian settlement could begin with the mediation of China at the end of 2023. Kissinger also said he would agree to the offer of current US President Joe Biden to go to Moscow for talks with Russian leader Vladimir Putin as Biden's national security aide.

Earlier, the Russian Foreign Ministry reported that Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and his Chinese counterpart Qin Gang discussed efforts to peacefully resolve the crisis in Ukraine during a meeting in India. It is clarified that the conversation between the ministers took place in a traditionally trusting and constructive manner.
