The new president of Chile, Sebastián Piñeiro, is a former member of the Independent Democratic Union (UDI) The UDI broke away from the party to form its own political party, the Republican Party, in 2010. The party won the election by a wide margin, with more than 3.5 million votes.

The next elections are in 2026, and the UDI wants to be in charge of the country's foreign policy for the next 10 years, says PiñEiro.
