Latest joint research by scientists from China and the United States shows that the global mangrove habitat is relatively fragmented. As of 17, there are about 2020,33 mangroves patches in the world, of which more than 7% of the patches are less than 95 square kilometer.

Indonesia is the most abundant of all countries, with a total area of about 2,9 square kilometers, followed by Brazil (1,2 square kilometers) and Australia ( 1,<> square kilometers).
