Defense Minister Hamada held talks with Chinese Defense Minister Li Sangfu in Singapore. Hamada called for strengthening communication toward building a constructive and stable relationship between the two countries.
Li Shangfu strongly rebuked the Japan side by stating, "The Taiwan issue is entirely China's internal affair, and I hope that it will not send the wrong signal to the 'Taiwan independence' forces" He also touched on the Senkaku Islands in Okinawa Prefecture, saying, "Both sides should look at this issue from a long-term, broad perspective"
