Mount Etna erupted on the Italian island of Sicily on Sunday, spewing ash into the city of Catania. Authorities at the airport, south of Mount Etna, said on Facebook that the ash had made use of the runway risky.
People in Catania and the nearby town of Adrano shared photos of cars and ash-covered roads. No damage or injuries were reported, and civil protection authorities have raised the alert level of the area as a precautionary measure. The volcano is one of the most active volcanoes in the world with frequent eruptions.
