The war in Sudan erupted suddenly this month between the army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) The family of Mohamed Jali, who live in the vast desert region of Darfur, where one of his sons is fighting on one side and the other on the other. The brothers are not currently fighting in the same place, but the family fears that the war will eventually push them into a direct confrontation with weapons.
The army and RSF shared power after the 2021 coup but this year disagreed over the political transition and planned integration of the RSF into the regular armed forces.
