Emmanuel Macron pays tribute to Toussaint Louverture, a former slave. The head of state visited the Château de Joux, in the department of Doubs, on the anniversary of the abolition of slavery in France.

The visit was the fourth since the promulgation of the highly contested pension reform. The French president was accompanied by his wife, Brigitte, and their son, Benjamin, who was born in France in 1788. The trip was the first since the end of the first term of President Nicolas Sarkozy.
