Catalonia is hit by a drought not seen in more than 30 months. Water has become so scarce that its use is already limited and the regional government is preparing for an increasingly dry future.

Barcelona already has its desalination plant which today produces 25% of the water that comes out of Barcelonans' taps. The region is putting in place restrictions that are decreed according to the level of drought. In all likelihood, the emergency will be declared in September, the Catalan "drought plan" has been modified to allow the use of swimming pools.
