Supporters of Senegalese opponent Ousmane Sonko clashed Monday morning with security forces in Ziguinchor, Casamance. Sonko is due to appear Tuesday in Dakar for a trial for rape and death threats on an employee of a beauty salon in the capital.
He says he is the target of a plot by the government to remove him from the 2024 presidential election. His opponents accuse him of relying on the streets to escape justice, or of being an agitator fomenting an "insurrectional" project.
