Vasily Nesterenko, 56, is a Russian realist artist covered with honors by Vladimir Putin. He has decorated part of the illustrious Cathedral of Christ the Saviour in Moscow and a large church dedicated to the Armed Forces of Russia.

The great hall of the Armoury, a stone's throw from the emblematic Red Square, hosts until June 25 a hundred paintings by the artist. The exhibition, as the Kremlin argues, presents Russian history as a necessary succession of glorious military episodes.
