In Japan, the abortion pill is now authorized but in a very controlled way. The pill must be taken within nine weeks of the start of a pregnancy.

In the U.S. some Republican states are seeking to ban the pill, which can cost up to $1,500. In Japan, it can only be taken if the mother is in danger of being raped or if she is pregnant with a child who is at risk of being killed or maimed by the pill. In France, the pill is only available if the woman is pregnant and the baby is not at risk.
