Karaage (pronounced "kala-agué") is a national fried chicken specialty in Japan. Judges of the Grand Prix of "karaage" tasted 25 kinds of karaage a day.

The judges had to eat about a kilo of chicken each session this year. The Grand Prix was set up after accusations of fraud in last year's winners' list.. The word refers to a technique of marinating chicken (but also other meats, fish or even vegetables) before frying it.
