Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed announced on Sunday evening the start of peace negotiations with a rebel group in the country's largest and most populous Oromia region. He said "peace negotiations" with the Oromo Liberation Army "will begin in Tanzania on Tuesday," adding that "the Ethiopian government and people desperately need these negotiations (...) I call on everyone to do their part," he said.

A peace agreement concluded on November 2 ended a two-year armed conflict between the federal government and regional authorities.
