The Geological Survey of Sweden has investigated organic pollutants such as PFAS and PAHs in bottom sediments around Gotland and Bråviken. The results show that some pollutants have highest concentrations close to land – which could indicate that there are still significant sources close to the coast.

High levels of environmental pollution are a problem for the Baltic Sea. Among other things, it can affect benthic animals and that fish get too high levels – something that in turn can affect human health.
