Sudan is now just a few steps away from restoring civilian rule, as agreed in the framework agreement. But a muted rift between Burhan and Hemedti has been surfacing, threatening the four-year transitional period since the overthrow of President Omar al-Bashir following the 2019 Sudanese revolution.

There is competition under the table and tacit power sharing between the two sides, and the two men have managed to reach a difficult equation to retain real power in Sudan. Both have conflicting interests, cards of power and allies at home and abroad.
