The U.S. Supreme Court upholds the right to abortion pills until further notice, thus rejecting a decision on restrictions on the drug by an appeals court.

For the past two decades, abortion pills with the substance mifepristone have been used in about half of all abortions performed in the United States. The drug is prescribed by doctors to medically terminate a pregnancy. American abortion opponents now want the abortion pill banned nationwide and a lawsuit was filed in hopes of overturning the previous FDA approval.
