The G7 countries have agreed to end plastic pollution within member states by 2040. The EU member states together with Canada and the UK have previously agreed on the same goal.
However, when it comes to how to deal with coal power and the phasing out of coal as an energy source, no end date has yet been reached. Instead, there is a clear disagreement among the member states, for example, Japan's energy production comes from a third of coal. The war in Ukraine and the associated energy crisis have also made uncertainty even greater.
