The French government will invest €3 billion in STMicroelectronics' new semiconductor plant in Crolles, near Grenoble. It is part of the "Chips Act", a program of the European Union.

The EU has set itself the goal of doubling the share of semiconductors produced in Europe by 2030 to 20%. Public subsidies for industry also mark the end of a taboo for Europeans and especially for Germans, says the European Commission's Ursula Von der Leyen.
