Five Italian police officers have been arrested for allegedly torturing detainees. They are accused of beating and insulting migrants in custody in the city of Verona.

17 other police officers are also being investigated, who are said not to have taken action against the alleged assaults. If the allegations are confirmed, it would be "enormously serious," said Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi. Last month, a Brazilian trans woman sued police officers in Milan after officers beat her. It shows three police officers beating her on the head and ribs with batons.
