The withdrawal of Swar al-Dahab from the head of power, as president of Sudan and minister of defense, and the withdrawal from the political scene after the 1985 revolution was a moral rarity rarely seen in the history of military coups in the countries of the Arab world. The political experience in Sudan since independence from the British occupier and separation from Egypt on the first of January 1956 is one of the most remarkable and exciting experiences, as Sudan was not able to be ruled by civilians for only a few months after independence.
