Euro issue has been dead for a long time, but has been brought to the fore by the weak krona. In the 2003 referendum, it was rejected and there is still no parliamentary majority in favour of changing the currency and introducing the euro.

The governing party Liberalerna decided that they will push the demand that Sweden adopt the euro as a currency and the party wants to investigate what membership in EMU would mean. Finance Minister Elisabeth Svantesson has replied that it is not relevant to bring Sweden into the euro area.
