The European Union is ending the humanitarian airlift it launched in early March to bring supplies to Goma, in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo. The region has been facing conflict between the army and the M23 rebellion for more than a year.

In total, seven aircraft, sent by the European Union, transported nearly 260 tonnes of supplies to the city. The EU ambassador to the DRC, Jean-Marc Châtaigner, says the effort must now focus on transporting this aid to more remote areas.
