Mahmoud Darwish was a Palestinian poet of the land, love and the Palestinian cause. His poems, innovative lexicon and the connotations of his metaphors were able to penetrate the Hebrew culture.

His death 11 years ago, on August 9, 2008, did not stop the long controversy surrounding his words and poems within Israeli society. Despite Israel's national, linguistic, and cultural "fortification" policies, the Hebrew translations of Dar wish's poetry have varied and found resonance with an audience of readers in Hebrew.
