The Israeli army announced that 3 of its soldiers were killed and an officer was wounded by an Egyptian policeman near the border with Egypt. The incident began with shooting at soldiers, followed hours later by a clash with the attacker.
An Egyptian security officer crossed the border while "chasing drug smuggling elements," and an exchange of fire took place that led to "the death of 3 Israeli insurance personnel and the injury of two others, in addition to the death of the Egyptian insurance officer" The Israeli military has thwarted an attempt to smuggle drugs valued at about two million shekels.
