Ten to twenty thousand Sudanese refugees fleeing the fighting have already crossed into Chad. Humanitarians are working to prepare for a massive influx of refugees.

The repercussions of the Sudanese conflict in eastern Chad are also economic and security. The UN dispatched a joint mission by the World Food Programme (WFP) and the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) "We must first identify the new arrivals so that we can distribute food and basic necessities," said Laura Lo Castro, UNHCR's representative in Chad.
