Cédric Andrieux will succeed Julie Guibert at the end of the current season. He is Director of Dance at the Conservatoire national supérieur de musique et de danse de Paris.
Selection committee praised his "ecological and responsible" ballet. He will take up his duties on 16 August, the Opera said in a statement. The only woman to lead a major ballet company in France since Aurélie Dupont, announced in January her departure.
