At least 33 soldiers were killed and 12 others wounded on Thursday in an attack on a military post in Ougarou, eastern Burkina Faso. Security sources said the attackers were "heavily armed" and that "some soldiers are missing" The transitional president, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, who came to power through a coup in September 2022, signed last week a decree of "general mobilization" for a period of one year.

More than 10,000 civilians and military personnel have been killed and some two million people have been displaced, according to NGOs.
