The veterinary shortage in Sweden affects many pet owners, not least the breeders – who feed on the well-being of their dogs. Susanne Ekstedt has been denied care for a dog that needed surgery when it was about to give birth.
"I have colleagues who have lost whole litters," she says. "The closest hospital that could receive us was 30 km away," says Susanne, who is a breeder. "Have lost hills," she adds, referring to the number of veterinarians in Sweden.
