Berlin has more than 50 football clubs competing in different degrees of the football pyramid. Capital clubs have always been a constant competitor for domestic titles in major European leagues.

The BFC Dynamo, founded three years after the creation of Stasi, was affiliated with the secret police, not behind closed rooms, but was public and not hidden from anyone. The club was initially founded for members of the regular state police, before opening its doors to players from various sports. The state is under our command, so the state clubs are also under ourcommand. This was the motto of Eric Milke, Dynamo's biggest supporter and honorary president.
