Benin has an opposition leader in Eric Houndété, president of the Democrats party, the party of former head of state Boni Yayi. The Leader of the Opposition is appointed by the Head of State.

The Democrats came first, ahead of all the other opposition political parties, with 28 MPs. According to the law, the crown belongs to them with attributes demanded by the new leader of the opposition: "You are not a leader if there is not a queue," he says.
